Nursery Admissions

The Bishop Gilpin Nursery is led by qualified teachers and follows the Government’s “Early Years Foundation Stage” (EYFS) curriculum which sets out the key learning objectives from birth to age 5 (end of Reception). This promotes knowledge and develops skills in children’s learning in seven main areas:

  • Personal, Social, Emotional
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Expressive Arts and Design
  • Understanding the World

These seven areas are used to plan your child’s learning activities. Within these areas there are separate Early Learning Goals which we aim for children to achieve by the time they finish both nursery and reception.

In the EYFS we follow the Bishop Gilpin ethos and aims, incorporating growth mindset and learning through the 4R’s. Click here for more information on Growth Mindset and the 4Rs at Bishop Gilpin.

“Through first class teaching and creative activities with an excellent level of challenge the children make exceptional progress in the Nursery.” Ofsted report, 2013

Registration

Parents can register their children with the school from age one.

Please note, from academic year 2020/21, Bishop Gilpin Nursery will only have one formal entry date in the Autumn term and there will be no formal Spring entry point in January.  All children will join the Nursery in the term following their third birthday.

Children born between 1 September 2016 and 31 December 2016 will already have been allocated Nursery places starting in January 2020. Children born between 1 January 2017 and 31 August 2017 are now eligible to apply for a Nursery place for Autumn Term 2020.  If there are vacancies in the Nursery after the commencement of Autumn term 2020, and no children born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017 are on the waiting list, children born between 1 September 2017 and 31 December 2017 can apply to join the Nursery from Spring term 2021 and children born between 1 January 2018 and 31 March 2018 can apply to join the Nursery from Summer term 2021. However these Spring and Summer term places cannot be guaranteed, will be subject to availability and allocated each term on a first come, first served basis.  Parents wishing to apply for these vacancies should use the 2020/21 application form and indicate in a cover note that they are applying for a Spring or Summer entry as appropriate.

To register your interest please complete the registration form and return it to the school’s Admissions Officer at lesleymichel@bishopgilpin.org or call 020 8946 6666.
