RECEPTION 2020/2021 CONSULTATION

As has been widely reported in the media, teacher recruitment and retention is now a top priority for the government.  In order to secure and retain high quality teachers, Merton Local Authority has amended its Admissions Policy to give priority to children of permanent teaching staff.  Increasingly, church primary school within the diocese of Southwark are also adopting this approach.

In order for Bishop Gilpin to continue to retain and attract the highest quality staff, the governors consider that it is appropriate for our current Admissions Policy to be amended to reflect this trend.  It is therefore proposed that priority is given to "children of paid members of Bishop Gilpin staff who are employed on a permanent contract with the school and have been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admissions is made.  Such priority will be limited to a maximum of two places per year.  If there are more than two suitably qualified applicants in a particular year, places will be allocated to those with the longest period of service".

The governors consider that this approach will enable the school to continue to be an attractive proposition to high calibre staff whilst minimising disadvantage to local families.

Please click here to view the proposed draft Policy.

Responses should be sent to receptionconsultation2020@bishopgilpin.org for the attention of Mrs A McGrath.   The consultation period will run until noon on 25th January 2019.

If you have any questions, please contact our Admissions Officer, Lesley Michel, on 020 8946 6666 (Monday - Thursday) or email lesleymichel@bishopgilpin.org
