Sports and Competition
Sport is a very important part of life at Bishop Gilpin.
Our specialist Head of Sports, Alec Smail, co-ordinates teaching and learning of PE in addition to a wide range of competitions as well as friendly matches between year groups and against local schools.
We have introduced a sports calendar (click here to access) to enable children and parents to see when events are due to take place. Over 90 children represented our school in competition during 2015-2016. We focussed on this in our school development planning and in 2018-2019 we had 198 pupils represented their school in extra-curricular sporting activity.
We are part of the Merton School Sports Partnership and compete against other schools in Merton and beyond. Our success within merton and beyond has been recognised by the Sports Partnership and we have been platinum award holders for the last two years.
In 2019 our girls team won the Merton Finals and the refspect award.
In addition to team sports, many of our children excel individual sports such as taekwondo.
